Trim-Tex Giant L Bead / Archway Case Study: W Brisbane Hotel Brisbane

Strikingly overlooking the Brisbane River stands the new W Brisbane Hotel. This is the first five-star hotel in 20 years which opened in Brisbane, as well as marking the return of W Hotels Worldwide into Australia. The W Brisbane Hotel is a welcomed addition to South East Queensland’s growing vibrant city. The interior designers’ theme “A River Dreaming”, influenced the design of it’s 312 guestrooms and luxurious suites, which includes Australia’s indigenous roots, colonial heritage and the Brisbane River and Mount Coot-tha views.

Developer Shayher Group appointed contractor Brookfield Multiplex and Superior Walls and Ceilings development over the mixed-use complex. Noe Perez, Trim-Tex’s Technical Sales Representative, Jim Swain from Wallboard Tools and Tom Gill from Tapepro Drywall Tools toured on site with contractor Superior Walls and Ceilings. “It is rewarding to see a company like Superior Walls and Ceilings who do such high quality work, understand and use Trim-Tex products to such a high level of craftsmanship.”

The following Trim-Tex products were used in the ballroom, meeting rooms, restaurant, and atrium of the development. The Giant L Bead & Archway has the traditional design of the L Bead & Archway, but finishes with a slight radius edge. It’s used to finish the rough edge of the drywall. Archway is great around duct work and piping, for finishing columns, curved walls and soffits. Giant L Bead has a 145mm return leg and is pre-scored at 122mm, 109mm and 95mm. Contractors also used the  Corner Bead & Archway, which has the original corner bead design featuring a slight radius on nose, and the archway minimum is 250mm inside radius or 450mm outside radius.

Another product, the 72-9010, 13mm Tear Away L Bead was used onsite as well. The product is used to finish the rough edge of the drywall and features a tear off strip that acts as a guide for the taping knife, as well as a protective mask for mudding. Lastly, the 72-885 Dual Angle Dual Grit Sanding Block was used. This Sanding Block is for simplifying sanding and has radius edges to prevent gouging & scuffing of compound.
