  • Q. Do I use WD40 to lubricate my automatic tools?
  • A. Strictly only use WD40 on metal to metal contact areas. WD40 has penetrants and solvents that are harmful to the rubber components, they will shrink and dry. We recommend using a silicone spray to lubricate the rubber components.

  • Q. Do I need to send my tools away to be serviced?
  • A. No, there are kits available that come with all the parts you will need and full instructions. There are also lots of YouTube clips to help if you get stuck.

  • Q. Will I save money by using automatic tools?

  • Q. Do I have to remove bead guides before finishing flat joints?
  • A. No, Tapepro Bead Guides are spring loaded and compress out of the way. They are wide enough not to leave a mark.

  • Q. What are Flat Box Bumpers?
  • A. Flat Box Bumpers help to protect your brass blade holder and side plates from damage. They are useful when boxing up to an adjacent surface as the bumper prevents the blade and holder from scraping or catching. Very handy for boxing P50 or similar shadow bead. They can easily be fitted to any Tapepro Flat Box at home.

  • Q. Will my Tapepro Flat Box Bumpers fit on to my other brand flat boxes.

  • Q. Are Tapepro tools made in Australia
  • A. Yes, Tapepro tools are designed and manufactured in Queensland, Australia.

  • Q. Can I lubricate my mud box?
  • A. Yes, metal to metal contact on mud box parts should be lubricated to reduce wear and provide smooth operation.

  • Q. Can I lubricate my extendable handle?
  • A. If it is the XH handle, yes. If it is a flat box handle (FHX, FHX-T or FHX-SL) please do not let lubricant enter the inner tube. Keep the handle clean and dry for the best operation. The brake pivot (in the head) should not be lubricated as this reduces the braking force. If you run the handle with the brake screw tightened, you will increase wear (like driving with the brakes on) *** Keep the handle as dry as possible – the inner brake is made of tool steel that can rust. This will increase wear.

  • Q. My flat box brass blade holder doesn’t move anymore? Is it supposed to?
  • A. Yes, the brass blade holder needs to move to function correctly. Remove the skids and the brass blade holder, clean, lubricate and reassemble. Check that the blade holder moves in and out under spring pressure.
  • Q. My flat box blade falls out (or the settings don’t work)
  • A. The blade needs to be bent into a slight “W” shape before fitting, so that it is gripped inside the blade holder. Without this the blade can float and stay straight, giving you no crown on joints.

  • Q. My blade holder is leaking compound.
  • A. Check the brass holder for play up and down (as opposed to in and out). The blue flat boxes have a mechanical seal, so rely on a close fit between components. Adjust the height of the tabs to control how much clearance there is.
